Record Electricity Generated from Wind Turbines
On September 6th, a record of over 3,000 MW of wind power was being supplied into the National Grid, which when added to output from turbines connected directly to local electricity networks meant that over 10% of UK electricity was then being wind‐generated.
By the following weekend National Grid was forced to shut down 750 MW of wind capacity to prevent an overload of power entering the network – as the tail end of Hurricane Katia brought further strong winds in the face of much lower weekend demand.
