Solar Panels take up 98% of Feed In Tariff and Subsidy Now Being Reduced
More than 45,000 installations were registered under the Feed-In Tariff (FIT) from 1 April 2010 to 30 June 2011, according to Ofgem. The figures show a strong increase in the take up of the scheme, with over 1/3rd of the installations being registered in the quarter from April 2011 to June 2011. Of these 98% were for solar panels, known as photovoltaic installations or PV, with the highest number of installations in the South East region.
New proposals are being discussed to halve the Feed In Tariff subsidy for solar panels installed after 12 December 2011. Also basic energy efficiency measures will need to have been put in place in buildings, before subsidies are claimed to generate renewable electricity from April 2012.
