Rampion Offshore Wind Farm

The new proposed renewable energy scheme will cover an area of 167 square kilometres and be sited 13-23km (8-15 miles) off the East Sussex coast near Seaford, Newhaven, Brighton and Worthing.

Up to 195 wind turbines are proposed, with generating capacities of between 3MW and 7MW, at heights of up to 180m and 210m with a total capacity of around 700 megawatts (MW) of electricity.

Comparing the Costs of Electricity Pylons with Burying Cables Underground

The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) has published a report comparing the costs of burying electricity power cables underground instead of using pylons to run them across the landscape.

The report suggests overhead cables are the cheapest at between £2.2m and £4.2m per kilometre.

Climate Change Levy rates from 1 April 2012

Climate change levy rates for electricity will increase to 0.509 pence per kilowatt hour (kWh) and natural gas to 0.177 pence per kilowatt hour from 1 April 2012 in Great Britain.

Ofgem Feed In Tariff Update December 2011

A total of 80,875 installed renewable installations were registered under the FIT scheme from 1 April 2010 - with more than 35,000 of these being registered within the last three months. 

97% of these installations were solar panels (photovoltaic).

UK Economy on Track to Meet Carbon Targets

The Government's Carbon Plan said the task of rebalancing the UK economy away from carbon is going well, leading to greater energy security and the development of new innovative technologies.

The aim is to reduce carbon emissions, reduce the UK's dependency on imported fuel and reduce the impact of international fuel price volatility.
