Debt Collectors' Letters

It can be pretty unsettling when an electricity or gas demand arrives, addressed to your business, stating there is a large outstanding debt which must be paid immediately or they will cut off the supply to your premises, if you know nothing about it.

We are often passed letters, addressed to our clients, suddenly demanding sums which have ranged from £1,000 to £42,000 that upon detailed investigation are found to actually relate to an electricity or gas supply at someone else's premises.

It seems likely that many large businesses, when threatened with being cut off, probably find it simpler just to pay the suppliers even though they don't really understand if the charges are for their own premises or not.
